The Glasgow Science Centre, currently taking shape on
the south bank of the Clyde at Pacific Quay, is a stunning
new attraction for Scotland.
Built on a city centre riverside site, the £75 million
complex houses the only IMAX® Cinema north of the border,
a four-floor main exhibits building, and the Glasgow Tower
- a slender wing-shaped structure which rises 440 feet into
the Clydeside air.
The first buildings in the UK to be clad in titanium (and
only the second in Europe after Bilbao's Guggenheim Museum),
GSC will house a wide range of exhibits explaining the world
around us and illuminating the role played by science and
technology in the development - and future - of Glasgow
and the West of Scotland.
The complex will offer a variety of activities to suit
the time available to visitors. From a one-hour trip into
space or under the North Pole, the IMAX® Theatre will
offer a viewing experience unrivalled in Scotland, while
an all-day visit could include a look through the main exhibits
building, taking in a science show with barmy biology or
flashy physics, a meal in the café bar or bistro,
and an unforgettable trip up the Tower.
