Galleries in Glasgow
Winning the UK City of Architecture and Design in 1999 and prior to that European City of Culture in 1990, Glasgow is now one of the major cultural destinations of Europe . The Burrell Collection, The Art Gallery and Museum and The Hunterian Museum and Art Gallery are some of the greatest art collections in the UK . In the Hunterian you'll find a large collection of work by Rennie Mackintosh including a replica of one of the artist's great homes.
The City of Glasgow owns one of the richest collections in Europe , displayed in 13 museums across the city.
All our museums are free, most have café facilities and we warmly welcome children.
The renowned Kelvingrove Art Gallery & Museum is now closed for refurbishment but you can see the best of Kelvingrove at McLellan Galleries in the 'Art Treasures of Kelvingrove' exhibition.
For contemporary art lovers, the Gallery of Modern Art (GoMA), in the heart of the city, runs a popular and thought-provoking programme of temporary exhibitions and workshops.
